Braided Stair Treads

You can add great decorative touches and a warm look with braided stair treads, as well as protect your high traffic areas like stair cases from damage and normal wear and tear.

When applied correctly (more below), braided stair treads also can help prevent slipping and falling due to slippery floors or stairs.

So exactly what are braided stair treads? Simply put, they are small braided rugs you put on individual stairs. Some are designed primarily for decor, while others may be very simple and designed primarily for safety.

Most we've seen are designed for indoor use, and costs can vary widely depending on the design, fabric, etc. just like with any other rugs. There also also some models made for outdoor use, for example for patio and deck stairs, areas that are more likely to get wet and slippery.

Safely installing many indoor braided stair treads requires using both rug padding and carpet tacks - follow the manufacturer's or shop's directions, or have them install them for you. The combo of tacks which securely anchor the tread and the padding stopping the tread from slipping and pulling against the tacks makes your stairs safer. Note that some stair treads may have a non slip backing and not require tacking - we've seen this mainly on outdoor models.

I absolutely love the large number of options available and the look of many of these. They range from utilitarian to contemporary to farmhouse to any other style you'd like. Certainly they are an option to consider when decorating your house, as well as a great safety feature!

My grandmother spent about two years looking at different models and patterns - that's how much flexibility you have. She finally found something perfect for her stairs and house, and had she been in a hurry, there were several more than adequate options she found quickly during her search.
